On August 15th, 2009, a group of patriotic men from Valdosta, GA travelled to Fort Benning to tour
the new eighty-million dollar Infantry Museum.  I was invited to tag along.  The highlight of the day was
lunch and conversation with Command Segeant Major Basil Plumley, who was portrayed by Sam Elliott
in the movie, "We Were Soldiers."

CSM Plumley spoke to us about his remarkable Army career whch spanned the years from WWII to
Korea, to Vietnam.  He also signed books, and fielded questions from the audience.

The Sergeant Major's advanced years may have slowed him a bit, but I believe he could still
parachute into a fight and kick some butt!

A Visit to the New Infantry Museum,
Fort Benning, Georgia
The group, known as "Best Buddies," travelled to Ft. Benning by chartered bus.
CSM Plumley signed books for some of the guys.
I gave CSM Plumley a 229th Aviation Battalion patch,
and we chatted briefly about our time in the 1st Cav.
Many thanks to the "Best Buddies" for inviting me to a memorable outing.
