Our brother, Walt Levering’s interment was just incredible. It was a send-off befitting the great soldier
and great friend he was. Controlling my emotions was a major task when I saw the caisson, the horses,
the band, the color guard, the firing squad, and all the other troops who participated. There was a
company-sized contingent of friends and relatives in attendance. Karen and the rest of the family
displayed the strength you would expect from Leverings. A large gathering of folks attended a
reception following the ceremony at Washington, DC’s Cosmos Club, where a video slide show of Walt’
s time with us was shown. I was both proud and humbled to represent B/229.
